Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa better known as Joeboy was born on the 21st of May 1997 in Lagos, Nigeria. The singer was given his nickname by his peers at High school.
The singer pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Joeboy is the first artist to become a beneficiary for Mr Eazi’s philanthropic Empawa Africa program.
Joeboy Career
Although Joeboy recorded his first song Gbeseyin at the age of 17, he was brought into the limelight after his cover of “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran received attention from many Nigerians and the rest of the globe.
Popular Nigerian singer, Mr Eazi later signed him to his record label “Empawa Africa” in 2017 under which he eventually dropped another mindblowing song called Faaji in 2018.
However, his most significant breakthrough came through in March 2019 when his song Baby garnered over 20 million views on YouTube. The song went ahead to reach the top 10 of the Apple Music charts in Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya.
It was a turning point for Joeboy and he followed up with another successful song in August 2019 which he titled Beginning. He has since been making waves in the entertainment industry and even went to released an (EP) in November 2019, which featured popular Nigerian artiste, Mayorkun.
